TIMU FOUNDATION COAT DRIVE

Timu Foundation is hosting our 1st Annual Coat Drive. We are accepting lightly used and new coats, sweaters, and blankets. All of our donations from the community will be given to the @lbrescuemission. Donations can be dropped off at 5225 Hayter Ave Lakewood, CA 90712. Our drive is inspired by Nia and Tauao Feomaia, grandparents of our cofounder, Amanda Timu.

Tauao and her blankets. My grandmother loved to gift blankets. It’s one of the many things I will always remember about her. I remember the days she would sit there for hours and knit. I didn’t understand then how special it was til the days of watching her knit, came to an end. When she didn’t have the strength to knit, she would buy these blankets from a little warehouse in Compton and gift them to everyone she loved. It was her special way of showing her love.

Nia and his plaid coats. My grandpa had a bunch of coats but each one looked exactly alike, just a different color. He loved him a plaid coat with a zipper. He hated buttons cause they took too long. My grandpa was impatient like that but a man full of peace. It was my favorite thing about him. He liked to be prompt no matter where he went and we could always spot him in a crowd because no matter where he went, he would always have a plaid coat on.

The holidays look so different this year because we won’t be able to open up a blanket under the Christmas tree or see my grandpa sitting at the dinner table in his plaid coat, but my hope is that with this drive, we are able to place a BLANKET OF LOVE on this community and wrap a COAT OF PEACE upon everyone in need throughout this holiday season. Help us this holiday season by donating any lightly used Sweaters, coats and blankets. All items will be donated to the long beach rescue mission to support any families that need warmth this cold season.
